Wyomissing’s Jack Miller: Body Zone Physical Therapy Defensive Player of the Week

Body Zone Physical Therapy Defensive Player of the Week

If it seems as though sometimes Jack Miller knows exactly what the other team is about to run, it’s because he does. The senior linebacker intensely studies opponent’s game film and recognizes plays before they’re about to happen, giving him and Wyomissing’s top-rated defense a big edge.

That was apparent early in Saturday’s 55-14 win over Boiling Springs. On back-to-back plays in the first quarter he bolted into the backfield and recorded 5-yard losses.

That was the beginning of an effort which saw Miller record nine tackles, two sacks, two hurries and four tackles for loss. It all added up to Body Zone Physical Therapy Defensive Player of the Week honors.

“He’s amazing,” said teammate Tommy Grabowski, who lines up at inside linebacker next to Miller.

“I don’t know if we’ve ever had anyone smarter or more committed to learning the X’s and O’s than Jack,” said Wyomissing coach Bob Wolfrum. “He’s out there telling everybody where to line up.

“Against Southern Columbia our defense knew exactly what was coming and they were ready to defend everything they threw at us that night. That’s the way it is every week.”

For the season Miller has 60 tackles, second on the team to Grabowski, who has 62. Miller has also blocked two punts.

He was named Linebacker of the Year in Section 2 of the Berks Football League and a first-team linebacker on the All-Berks team. He was also a second-team all-league pick at offensive guard.

Miller helped the Spartans win their third straight District 3 Class 3A championship. They advance to the PIAA quarterfinals with a game against Scranton Prep Saturday at Mifflin Stadium at 2.

This is Miller’s first selection as Body Zone Physical Therapy Defensive Player of the Week. He is the fourth Wyomissing player selected for a MikeDragoSports.com weekly award this season. Nevin Carter and Matt Kramer were selected as Defensive Player of the Week and Jven Williams was Lineman of the Week.
