MOUNT JOY — Wyomissing ran just five plays from scrimmage and jumped out a three-score lead en route to a 49-0 shutout win at Donegal. The win helped moved to Spartans to 3-0 in Section 4 of the Lancaster-Lebanon League as Wyomissing kept pace with the other section leaders – Lampeter-Strasburg and Twin Valley.
Wyomissing (3-0, 5-1) scored two minutes into the game after Andrew Bresnahan recovered a blocked punt at the Donegal 1 and Chase Eisenhower punched it in for the 7-0 lead.
After Donegal (0-3, 1-5) turned the ball over on downs at the Wyomissing 44, Justice Hardy burst outside for a 38-yard run and Eisenhower followed with an 18-yard touchdown run. Moments later, a bad snap on a punt caused Donegal to again turn the ball over on downs—this time at their own 24. Two plays later, Hardy (game-high 54 yards rushing) had a 16-yard touchdown and Wyomissing had a 21-0 lead with 0:47 left in the first quarter.
Leading 28-0 at halftime, Justice Hardy returned the opening kickoff of the second half 80 yards to give the Spartans a 35-0 lead. Moments later, Hardy had a strip sack of Donegal quarterback Leelan Baughman and the fumble was recovered at the Donegal 30 by Maxwell Tipton. Two plays later, Daniel Delp burst left for a 27-yard touchdown run.
The Spartans’ capped the scoring on a 7-yard touchdown run by Jossian Lopez-Sanchez with 6:36 left in the game—the run finishing an eight-play, 52-yard drive.
Hardy also got a hand on a Leelan Baughman punt in the first quarter that setup the Spartan’s first touchdown.
Both teams came into the game averaging better than 225 yards per game on the ground. The Spartans ran for 225 yards on 30 carries and the Wyomissing defense held Donegal to just 70 yards on 34 carries.
Up next, Wyomissing hosts Daniel Boone and Donegal visits Twin Valley.
