Backup halfback Danny Fleischood scored three touchdowns and Wyomissing’s defensive unit controlled West York in a 35-7 win Saturday that sends the Spartans to the District 3 Class 4A championship game, looking for their sixth straight district title.
The second-seeded Spartans (10-2) earned a rematch against top-seeded Lampeter-Strasburg Friday at 7 at Warwick. The unbeaten Pioneers won at Wyomissing 20-7 in the regular season finale.
Wyomissing is ranked No. 5 in the state in Class 4A; Lampeter is No. 3.
The loss to the Pioneers took a toll on the Spartans, who lost their top player, Justice Hardy, as well as tight end Andrew Bresnahan to injuries. Neither played Saturday.
The Spartans didn’t seem to miss them as Fleischood again slid seamlessly into Hardy’s role on offense, rushing for 132 yards on seven carries and running for touchdowns of 34 and 46 yards. He also turned a short pass into a 36-yard touchdown midway through the third quarter to give Wyomissing a 35-0 and start the running clock.
Senior halfback Derek Macrina ran for 78 yards on nine carries, with a 23-yard touchdown run. Junior fullback Chase Eisenhower rushed for 72 yards on 12 carries and scored on a 28-yard fumble return in the final minute of the first half.

Overall, the Spartans rushed for 313 yards behind their all-senior offensive line of center Francisco Fabian, guards Max Tipton and Ayden Jimenez, and tackles Keaton Piacine and Caleb Beane.
The loss ends a dream season for the third-seeded Bulldogs (9-3), who were winless last season but made a huge turnaround under coach Ron Miller, who returned this season after taking them to a district championship in 2008 in his first stint.
The Bulldogs advanced to the semifinals with a 5-3 win over Eastern York. They again had trouble moving the ball against a strong Wyomissing defensive front that recorded eight negative plays and scored three sacks. West York was held to minus-9 yards rushing.
The Bulldogs didn’t score until late in the third quarter, after a 62-yard kickoff return set them up at the Wyomissing 20.
Wyomissing improved to 16-0 in district playoff games at Wolfrum Field, formerly known as the A-Field.
Wyomissing has won 13 consecutive district playoff games, the fifth-longest streak in District 3 history. Bishop McDevitt owns the record with 25 straight wins from 2010-16.
Wyomissing has won the last five District 3 Class 3A championships. This is its first year in Class 4A after being elevated by the PIAA’s “Success Formula.”
Lampeter-Strasburg, the Lancaster-Lebanon League Section 4 champ, advanced with a 31-13 semifinal win over Twin Valley Friday.
