Wilson’s season on the brink after loss to Central York

Central York took advantage of Wilson’s fourth-quarter cold spell and pulled ahead to win 50-47 Tuesday in a District 3 Class 6A playback game at York.

The seventh-seeded Bulldogs (18-9) head to a seventh-place game Thursday at York High, the No. 4 seed. The winner earns a spot in the PIAA Tournament; the loser is eliminated. The Bearcats (18-6) lost to Chambersburg Tuesday 64-56.

Wilson, powered by Cleveland Harding’s 13 points, led 30-23 at the half; Harding finished with a game-high 17 points.

The Bulldogs led 40-37 heading into the final quarter but went without a basket for over five minutes, allowing the sixth-seeded Panthers (18-7) to take the lead. Wilson was outscored 13-7 in the fourth quarter.

Greg Guidinger had 13 points and Ben Natal had 12 for Central York, which will face eighth-seeded Chambersburg in the fifth-place game on Thursday in York. Both teams have qualified for the state tournament.

The loss was the third in four postseason games for Wilson. It opened the district tournament with a 48-40 win at home against Cedar Crest before losing 59-38 at Cumberland Valley.

Wilson beat Central York 60-51 at the Hempfield Holiday Tournament Dec. 27. Aidan Melograna led the way with 21 points for the Bulldogs; he scored three on Tuesday.

Ben Rill, who led Central York with 24 points in that game, was held to nine Tuesday.
