Wilson will be the No. 1 seed and undefeated Wyomissing No. 2 when the BCIAA girls basketball tournament begins Saturday with quarterfinals on the home court of the higher-seeded team.

The defending champion Spartans (22-0) haven’t lost since falling to Pittsburgh North Catholic in the PIAA quarterfinals last March. They won the Berks III title and have the second-highest power rating (.754).

The Berks I champion Bulldogs (21-1) went undefeated in league play and have the highest power rating (.793). They have won 14 straight since a 36-30 loss at Dallastown Dec. 27.

Seeds are based strictly on power ratings; there were no coaches’ challenges.

Despite having a loss, Wilson’s power rating is higher than Wyomissing because of its strength-of-schedule rating (.575), more than 100 points higher than the Spartans’ (.454).

Wilson will play Berks III runner-up and No. 8 seed Schuylkill Valley (15-7) at West Lawn at 7. Each of the other games tips at 1.

Schuylkill Valley qualified by virtue of a head-to-head win over Brandywine Heights. The Panthers had the lowest power rating (.591) among qualifying teams.

The Red Knights (10-12) qualified as a wildcard and will travel to Wyomissing in a rematch of last season’s title game. Reading (.591) holds a miniscule .0003 power rating advantage over Schuylkill Valley for the No. 7 spot.

Gov. Mifflin (14-8) is the No. 3 seed and hosts Berks IV champ and No. 6 seed Oley Valley (17-5). Berks I runner-up Berks Catholic (12-10) is the No. 4 seed and hosts Berks II champ Exeter (14-8).

Brandywine Heights (.588) narrowly missed qualifying as a wildcard.

The winners advance to the semifinals at Santander Arena on Wednesday as part of a quadrupleheader, along with two boys semifinals. The games will be played at 4, 5:30, 7 and 8:30. The times will not be announced until after Monday’s quarterfinals.

The girls/boys championship doubleheader is Friday, Feb. 16 at Santander, with the girls game at 6 and boys game at 8.

Wyomissing won last year’s title by beating Exeter 59-26, Wilson 43-35 and Reading 46-28. It was the Spartans’ first county title.
