Wilson makes quick work of King in 50-8 bounce-back victory

Even with some of their top players still sidelined Wilson had little trouble with Martin Luther King Friday, scoring touchdowns on its first three possessions en route to a 50-8 victory at Gurski Stadium.

The Bulldogs (2-2) led 23-0 after one quarter and 36-0 at the half.

Quarterback Brad Hoffman, who was injured and didn’t play in last week’s loss at Exeter, returned to throw three touchdowns passes: 37 yards to Cam Jones, 13 yards to Edison Case and 49 yards to T.J. Flite. Hoffman finished 9-of-16 for 172 yards.

The Bulldogs were without their leading rusher, Jadyn Jones, who was suspended for two games after being ejected in the 42-14 loss at Exeter. They were also without running back Gavin Lenart. Still, they managed to rush for 214 yards.

Jaison Beckford rushed for a team-high 89 yards and scored on a 3-yard run.

Cam Jones had a pair of TDs, his 3-yard run giving Wilson a 29-0 lead late in the second quarter. He finished with a team-high three receptions for 72 yards.

The Golden Cougars (0-2) were completely dominated by Wilson’s defense, which recorded five sacks, nine tackles for loss and two interceptions. King was held to minus-33 yards rushing and just 5 total yards on 36 offensive plays.

Flite and Dominic Memmo each recorded a pair of tackles for loss; Flite had a sack.

The Golden Cougars trailed 50-0 before they scored with 6:44 remaining.

The Bulldogs went 39 yards on eight plays on their first possession to take the lead. Hoffman capped the drive with a 3-yard TD run.

After another three-and-out the Bulldogs started at the King 37 and scored in one play, on a pass to Cam Jones.

Wilson’s third possession started in King territory as well, at the 49, and resulted in another TD. Spencer Thenga’s 28-yard run to the 13 set up Hoffman’s scoring pass to Case.

The Bulldogs went up 23-0 on a safety when the Golden Cougars fumbled a punt attempt from their own 21 and recovered it in the end zone.

Wilson finished with 392 total yards.

The Bulldogs host unbeaten Manheim Central next week. The Barons held off Perkiomen Valley 43-40 to improve to 4-0.

Martin Luther King opened the season with an 18-6 loss to Chester.
