Correll Akings, Bulldogs roll past McCaskey

LANCASTER — On a rainy and wet Friday night in the Red Rose city, Wilson’s Correll Akings accounted for three touchdowns, two receiving and one rushing, in a 47-20 win over McCaskey in a Lancaster-Lebanon League Section 1 matchup at Barney Ewell Complex.
Wilson (5-0, 7-2) recorded win No. 600 in program history, becoming the fifth District 3 teams to do so. The Bulldogs join some elite company: Steelton-Highspire, Bishop McDevitt, Middletown and Manheim Central. Each of those programs have been playing football for at least 100 years; Wilson didn’t field a team until 1945.
The win sets up a de-facto Section 1 title game next Friday against Manheim Township at Gurski Stadium. The undefeated Blue Streaks have been unstoppable this season, defeating every opponent by at least 29 points. The Bulldogs won 27-21 in last year’s contest.
Akings opened the scoring late in the first quarter with a 3-yard touchdown run. It was the only score of the first quarter. The sophomore running back tallied 143 all-purpose yards, including 113 on the ground.
The Bulldogs scored three times in the second quarter, all on passes thrown by Tommy Hunsicker. Edison Case caught two touchdown passes (63 yards and 23 yards) while Akings found the end zone once in the quarter on an 11-yard reception.
McCaskey (1-4, 2-7) scored three touchdowns, the most specular of which a 70-yard kickoff return by Victor Rodriguez in the final minutes of the contest.
