Week 9: Fearless Friday Football Forecast (updated with results)

It’s not often the Kutztown Cougars are going to be one of the pivotal picks in the weekly Fearless Friday Football Forecast, but they are this week. Coming off a respectable showing against state-ranked Lancaster Catholic — Kutztown actually led early in the game — and off a win the week before against Northern Lebanon, the Cougars are favored this week by the Forecasters by a 9-4 margin.

Interesting to note that one of the four who picked against the Cougars is the season points leader, Joe Mays. Does he know something about Columbia the rest of us don’t? Or is he about to lose hold of the top spot? We’ll find out soon.

The only other toss-up game is at Berks Catholic, where Cocalico is a 9-4 favorite among the Forecasters.

Elsewhere . . . well, there are a lot of clean sweeps on the board — 10 of ’em.

Out on a limb this week all by himself, it’s . . . Jeff Reinhart, who’s forecasting an Annville-Cleona victory, figuring Schuylkill Valley will be looking ahead to a Week 10 showdown against unbeaten Lancaster Catholic. Betting on the old “trap game” theory.

Each week, MikeDragoSports.com staff writers and photographers, along with Jeff Reinhart of football partner LNP/Lancasteronline, will pick the games. We’ll keep standings and the Forecaster with the most points at the end of the season will get a big prize! (Big being a relative term.)

Each correct pick earns one point; if a Forecaster “doubles down” and is correct he gets two points.

Remember: Each Fearless Forecaster can only “down double” on a team once during the regular season (and once again during the postseason).
