Week 10: Fearless Friday Football Forecast (updated with results)

2023 Berks football coverage presented by

Utilities Employees Credit Union

It’s the final week of the regular season and most teams are still fighting for a playoff spot, or to improve playoff positioning.

The Fearless Forecasters? The final week of the regular season means our options for doubling-down on a key pick have grown limited. Very limited for most Forecasters. Non-existent for some: Three Forecasters boxed themselves out and will have no double-downs this week.

Next week, and the start of the postseason, means a clean slate. The Forecasters will have their choice to double-down on any Berks teams still playing — one more time.

As for this week there are some big games — and some tough picks.

That lightning-rod Schuylkill Valley team again has the panel split right down the middle — and the Panthers don’t like it one bit, especially their boss, Bruce Harbach. He wants us to pick the Panthers every week, so I’ll oblige. I was burned last week by not following his directive.

Not so long ago it was unthinkable not to pick Wyomissing, the team that strung together a record 41 straight regular season victories. Not anymore. Three Forecasters are taking the home team in that Section 4 slugfest at Lampeter-Strasburg. It could be the game of the night, even though there are not section title implications.

Each week, MikeDragoSports.com staff writers and photographers, along with Jeff Reinhart of football partner LNP/Lancasteronline and Daryn Zeiner of Jerry Geleff Media, will pick all the Berks games. We’ll keep standings and the Forecaster with the most points at the end of the season will get a big prize!

Each correct pick earns one point; if a Forecaster “doubles down” on a Berks team and is correct he gets two points. Each Fearless Forecaster can “down double” on a team only once during the regular season (and once again during the postseason).
