Unbeaten Kutztown University among 10 teams in initial Super One rankings

Unbeaten Kutztown University is among 10 teams from Super Region One to appear in the NCAA’s first regional rankings of the season.
The Golden Bears (8-0), ranked No. 3 in the latest D2Football.com Top 25 and No. 4 in the AFCA Division II Coaches Poll, are the only unbeaten team in Super Region One and one of seven remaining undefeated teams in Division II.
The first edition of the regional rankings are unranked, with teams under consideration for the NCAA DII Football Championship field listed in alphabetical order.
Kutztown is the lone representative from the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference’s Eastern Division; California, IUP and Slippery Rock made the initial list from the West.
Governor Mifflin grads Brandon Strausser and Eden Johnson are the team’s top tacklers. Strausser leads the team with 36 tackles; Johnson is tied for second with 30. Johnson is third with 3.5 tackles for loss; he also has a fumble recovery.
Daniel Boone grad Nate Millard is averaging 43.1 yards on his 20 punts, with five kicks dropping inside the 20.
Kutztown’s season-opening opponent, Assumption, also made the Region One rankings. The Golden Bears defeated the Greyhounds 51-14; it is Assumption’s only loss.
Super Region One is comprised of schools from the PSAC, Central Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, Mountain East Conference and Northeast-10.
The NCAA expanded the DII Championship field to 32 teams in 2025, up from 28. The change adds automatic qualifying bids for 16 conference champions and eliminates first round byes for the top seed in each of the four super regions. The remaining 16 named to the playoff field will be at-large selections. Eight teams from each super region will qualify.
Next week’s regional rankings will be the first set where teams are numerically ranked.
Kutztown can wrap up its third consecutive PSAC East title with a win over East Stroudsburg at Andre Reed Stadium Saturday at noon.
