Record-setting running backs Leo Brown of Exeter and Drew Engle of Twin Valley are among 55 Pennsylvania players named Mini Max Award winners by the Maxwell Football Club.

Brown broke the Berks record for single-season rushing, gaining 2,444 yards.

Engle broke more than a dozen Twin Valley records, including rushing for 2,095 yards in a season, now third-most in Berks history.

They are among just seven Berks players to top 2,000 yards in a season.

Both players were named to their respective All-State teams this week, Brown in Class 5A and Engle in 4A.

Three other Lancaster-Lebanon League players made the list: Hudson Sellars, Annville-Cleona; Jack Kenneff, Manheim Township; and Johnny Garcia, Solanco.

Players were nominated by their coaches throughout the season and were evaluated based on criteria that include football performance, academics, and community service.

The Maxwell Football Club will select one player from Pennsylvania, Delaware, and New Jersey as the Player of the Year for each state. These will be announced at the annual Mini-Maxwell Awards on Feb. 1 at the Drexelbrook Catering and Event Center in Drexel Hill.

Recent winners of the Jim Henry Award include Stone Saunders (Bishop McDevitt H.S.-Kentucky), Alex Erby (Steelton Highspire H.S. – Naval Academy Prep), Stefano Montello (West Morris Central H.S. – Brown), Nick Singleton (Governor Mifflin – Penn State), Kyle McCord (St. Joseph’s Prep – Ohio State), Will Howard (Downingtown West H.S. – Kansas State), Keith Maguire (Malvern Prep – Clemson), Shayne Simon (St. Peters Prep – Notre Dame), Jonathan Taylor (Salem H.S. – Wisconsin), Brandon McIlwain (Council Rock

North H.S – South Carolina/Cal), and Kyle Shurmur (LaSalle College H.S. – Vanderbilt).

The Maxwell Football Club was founded in 1935 and is the oldest football organization of its kind in America. The Club recognizes excellence in performance at the high school, collegiate, and professional levels of the game.
