Twin Valley, Evan Johnson, make quick work of Fleetwood

By Chris Deantonio — MikeDragoSports.com correspondent

A week after Jaydon Goebel provided some thunder for Twin Valley’s offense Evan Johnson followed with the lightning, scoring three touchdowns in the Raiders’ 42-14 Lancaster-Lebanon League Section 3 victory Friday over Fleetwood at Tigers Stadium.

Johnson, who scored on runs of 15, 46 and 8 yards, ran for a game-high 145 yards on 11 carries as Twin Valley raced to an early lead.

After a win last week that featured Goebel carrying the load in the fourth quarter, getting Johnson involved against the Tigers was a focal point for the Raiders.

“He’s a good running back,” Twin Valley coach Brett Myers said of Johnson. “We’ve been featuring Jaydon a lot, and so it’s tougher to defend when you can get both guys rolling.”

Despite a somewhat sloppy first quarter that included two turnovers by each team, Twin Valley’s backfield ran free all night, racking up six rushing touchdowns and 334 rushing yards.

After an opening drive that consisted of four runs by Johnson, including a 15-yard touchdown, the Raiders turned the ball over on their next two possessions.

“It was a great learning experience for our defense,” said Myers. “It showed we can handle the ebbs and flows of the game.”

The defense responded with an interception of its own by cornerback Brad Taggert and later a blocked punt that led to a 1-yard touchdown by Goebel.

Twin Valley (1-0, 3-1) went on a scoring run, ending four of its next five drives in the end zone. Three of those touchdowns were on one-play possessions; the Raiders went into halftime having scored touchdowns on their final four offensive plays.

Although Johnson and Goebel led the way, it was a collective effort. Quarterback Evan Myers scored on a 9-yard run in the second quarter and Drew Engle scored on a 39-yard run in the second quarter.

Engle finished with 71 yards and a touchdown on eight touches and got the majority of the carries in the second half.

Fleetwood (0-1, 2-2) got on the scoreboard late with two touchdown passes from Jack Riffle to Mason Musitano.

Riffle completed 7-of-22 passes for 76 yards and a touchdown. He also threw one interception.
