It’s no secret what Warwick likes to do offensively. The Warriors have leaned heavily on the run game with back Heath Schnipke, who is atop the league leaderboards in rushing attempts.

Fleetwood did a magnificent job stopping that part of Warwick’s game Saturday, holding the Warriors to a negative team rushing total and Schnipke to 7 rushing yards yet still fell 37-0 in a Lancaster-Lebanon League Section 3 game at Tigers Stadium.

“We shut down the run,” Fleetwood head coach Steve Pangburn said. “There were spurts of this game where we matched their intensity. It just wasn’t enough.

“But either way, I’m proud of my guys. They showed a little bit of fight. Even though the score is what the score is, we’re looking for small victories. And we got one.”

The Tigers’ issues arose against Warwick’s surprising passing attack and its playmaking special teams.

The Warriors (3-1, 6-1) started their fourth different quarterback this season, Tyler Musser. The newest signal-caller unexpectedly led an Air-Raid offense with 246 passing yards and three touchdown throws.

“That kid can play,” Pangburn said of Musser. “They got that early score to set the tone. We fought for four quarters and didn’t lay down. (Warwick) is a very good football team.”

Musser made his initial impact on special teams when he blocked Fleetwood’s punt on its first offensive drive. Anthony Hoover recovered the ball in the end zone to give the Warriors a 7-0 lead less than two minutes into the game.

Musser hit Rowen Greenway for a 61-yard deep-shot touchdown with 7:50 left and then Bode Madara for a 23-yard screen pass TD with 5:24 left in the first quarter.

The Tigers (0-3, 2-5) and their pass-heavy offense struggled to find answers to match. Starting quarterback Chase McMonagle was knocked out of the game on a roughing the passer penalty midway through the second quarter, forcing wide receiver Chase Adams to step in.

“I’m not sure about his injury and how that’ll play out,” Pangburn said. “I liked some of the moxie Chase (Adams) brought to the table. He came in and he competed.”

The Musser-Greenway connection doubled down on a 52-yard touchdown with 58 seconds left before halftime to put the Tigers in a 28-0 hole.

After each team started with a punt in the third quarter, Musser accounted for his fourth touchdown on a 2-yard run to conclude an eight-play, 71-yard drive. That enacted the running clock and gave the Warriors a 35-0 lead with 2:41 remaining.

Warwick’s special teams — this time courtesy of Vinny Bagonis — blocked its second punt and the ball rolled out the back of the end zone for a safety, the only points scored in the fourth quarter.

The Tigers close the regular season with some of the toughest teams in Section 2: Manheim Central, Solanco, and Cocalico. They’ll be aiming to turn these small victories into a league victory and avoid going winless in Section 3 for the second straight year.
