All-State: Lackawanna Trail’s Isaac Ryon named Class 1A Player of the Year

Lackawanna Trail running back Isaac Ryon is the Player of the Year and PIAA champ Clairton has five selections on the Pennsylvania Football Writers Class 1A All-State football team.

Clairton’s Wayne Wade was named co-Coach of the Year, along with Michael Menold of state semifinalist Greenville.

Ryan, a 5-10 185-pound senior, rushed for 2,876 yards and scored 54 touchdowns, 49 rushing. He ran for over 300 yards three times, including a personal-best 370 against Riverside, and finished his career with 4,969 yards and 89 TDs.

Clairton, which defeated Bishop Guilfoyle 35-3 for the title, is represented by quarterback Jeff Thompson, running back Deon Lovelace-Pompey, offensive lineman Avaughn Pompey, defensive lineman D’Kota Harris, and linebacker Brandon Murphy.

Guilfoyle had four selections on the 43-player team, which was selected by sportswriters across the state.

The Class 3A and 5A teams will be announced later today. Teams for Class 2A, 4A, and 6A will be announced Wednesday.
