Twin Valley set all kinds of records during its historic 14-win season. Now the Raiders have one more.

A record five Raiders, led by Berks Player of the Year Drew Engle, have been named to the Pennsylvania Football Writers Class 4A All-State team.

Engle is joined by teammates Ben Grundy, Greyson Miller, Lucas Myers, and Ryan Rementer, as well as Wyomissing’s Justice Hardy.

Hardy, a junior, becomes just the fifth two-time All-State pick in Spartans history, following Ryker Jones in 2022-23, Jven Williams in 2021-22, Alex Anzalone in 2011-12, and Nolan McCready in 2000-01. He recently transferred to Wilson, so he can’t become Wyomissing’s first three-time pick.

In its first 29 seasons Twin Valley produced five All-State picks, most of them in the last two years.

Its five first-team picks are among the most in Berks history. Wyomissing set the record with seven in 2020. The Spartans had six in 2021. Exeter had five in 2021.

Engle, a senior, set program records with 2,095 rushing yards in a season and 4,212 in career. He averaged 9.3 yards per carry. He capped his career with 176 yards and a TD in the PIAA championship game against Southern Lehigh.

Engle scored 37 TDs this season and 61 in his career; he set the program record with six TDs in a game, against Lampeter-Strasburg.

He was named Outstanding Back and Offensive Back of the Year in Section 4 of Lancaster-Lebanon League and Player of the Year by MikeDragoSports.com.

Hardy, the Defensive Back of the Year in Section 4, was named as a defensive back for the second straight year. He had 31 tackles, two interceptions and forced a fumble for the District 3 semifinalists. He also averaged 10.7 yards per carry, rushing for 979 yards and scoring 19 TDs.

Miller, a senior and two-way standout, was named as an offensive lineman. He was named Outstanding Lineman, Offensive Lineman of the Year, and Defensive Lineman of the Year in Section 4 after leading the Raiders to their first district championship.

He graded out as highest lineman on team that ranked No. 1 in 37-team league in total offense and No. 2 in state in scoring at 48.6 points per game.

Myers, a junior, and Rementer, a senior, were selected at linebacker.

Myers was named Linebacker of the Year in Section 4 and fronted a defense that was ranked No. 1 in the league in total defense and scoring defense. He recorded 140 tackles, a team-high 12 sacks, and 21 tackles for loss. He also rushed for 1,198 yards and scored 25 TDs.

Rementer led Twin Valley with 145 tackles, had 15 tackles for loss, 6.5 sacks, and shared team lead with three interceptions.

Grundy, selected as an Athlete, was named Wide Receiver of the Year in Section 4 for the second straight season. He caught a team-leading 24 passes, seven for TDs, in a run-heavy offense. He was also the Raiders’ top cover corner and had 11 pass breakups and an interception. He was also an all-league pick as a kick returner after averaging 19.6 on punt returns with two TDs and 46.7 yards on kickoffs with two TDs.

The Raiders had more All-State selections than Southern Lehigh, which defeated them 43-21 in the championship game.

Southern’s Sean Steckert was named Player of the Year after rushing for 3,211 yards and 45 touchdowns, including 301 yards and four TDs in the PIAA championship game.

Southern’s Phil Sams was named Coach of the Year after completing a perfect season.

Twin Valley had two All-State picks last year, Evan Myers and Carter Faubel, and two the year before: Ian Winchester and Paul McClune. The first was Matt Kier, in 1998.

The 40-player team was selected by sportswriters across the state. The 6A team will be announced later today.
