Five Fast Football Facts for Week 12

1

Wyomissing is 14-0 at home in District 3 playoff games and 15-0 overall in postseason games at Bob Wolfrum Field (previously known as the A-Field).

That streak includes a 2020 PIAA Tournament victory over Danville, as well as the last three District 3 Class 3A championship games.

Wyomissing goes into Saturday’s home game against East Pennsboro with an overall 11-game district playoff winning streak, dating back to 2018.

The Spartans saw their 36-game home winning streak snapped last month in a 20-7 loss to Lampeter-Strasburg.

2

Bishop McDevitt quarterback Stone Saunders, who goes up against unbeaten Conrad Weiser Friday, has thrown a state-record 190 touchdown passes during his four-year career. The Kentucky recruit has smashed the record of 176, set last year by Steel-High’s Alex Erby.

Saunders is chasing Erby’s state record of 13,562 career passing yards. Saunders has thrown for 2,473 yards this season and 12,615 over four years.

Wilson, which plays Cedar Crest Friday at Gurski Stadium, is 26-6 in District 3 playoff games at home. The Bulldogs are 23-5 in home playoff games under Doug Dahms.

Wilson has not played a home playoff game since 2019 and is riding a three-game district playoff losing streak, its longest since going 0-4 at the outset of postseason play, from 1984-87.

4

Kutztown is the only Berks program never to qualify for the District 3 Tournament. The Cougars have fielded teams for 49 years.

Fleetwood has appeared just once in its 24 seasons, 2019.

Reading High has qualified just three times, most recently in 2014. Twin Valley is making its fourth appearance overall and its fourth straight.

5

The No. 1 seed in Class 6A has won just once in eight years: That was Harrisburg, in 2018.

The No. 2 seed has won four times and the No. 3 seed three times. Seeds are generated by power ratings.

Harrisburg, by the way, has won the last three 6A titles, as the No. 2, 3, and 2 seed, respectively. The Cougars have won four of the eight 6A titles since the PIAA expanded in 2016.
