T.J. Miller resigns as Boyertown football coach (updated)

(Note: Boyertown’s final 2021 record and Miller’s overall record have been corrected.)

T.J. Miller has resigned after five seasons as head football coach at Boyertown.

The Bears finished 4-7 last season and reached the Eastern Conference Class 5A/6A championship game.

Miller, 37, played football at Gov. Mifflin and Albright.

Prior to coaching at Boyertown, Miller was an assistant coach at Penn Manor, Gov. Mifflin and Muhlenberg, where he was the offensive coordinator for two seasons.

Overall in five seasons Miller went 15-34. His most successful season was his first, in 2017, when the Bears finished 5-6. They ended that season with three straight wins and beat Pocono Mountain East 48-20 to win an Eastern Conference championship.

Miller is the fourth Berks football coach to resign after last season, following Jeff Chillot at Hamburg, Steve Beatty at Fleetwood and Andre Doyle at Reading High.

Miller took over for George Parkinson following the 2016 season. The Bears have not had a winning season since 2013, the last of Mark Scisly’s six seasons leading the program.

Miller was an all-league linebacker for the Mustangs as a senior and a Shirk Scholar at Albright.
