Berks Catholic eked out a 22-18 win against Executive Education in a non-league matchup Friday night at Andre Reed Stadium at Kutztown University.
Berks Catholic quarterback Zach Suski’s 1-yard touchdown run with two seconds left in the game lifted the Saints to their first win of the season and their first under new head coach Dave Stahler.
Executive Education (1-1) raced out to an early lead on a 7-yard touchdown pass from Zion Brake to Tahir Edmonson.
The Saints (1-1) answered right back with Nathaniel Rose’s first score of the game—a 5-yard run which capped off a12-play drive.
After trailing at the half, Executive Education regained the lead with a 30-yard touchdown pass from Brake to Christian Navarro. Brake completed 13-of-22 pass attempts for 154 yards and two scores. He also threw one interception.
But again, the Saints answered with a score, and once again it was Rose who scored on another 5-yard touchdown run.
Executive Education found the end zone again with 1:20 left in the game on a 7-yard run by Jadien Perez. Perez finished with 89 yards and one touchdown on 11 carries.
Suski’s game-winning touchdown run ended an 8-play drive that started at the Saints’ 48-yard line.
Suski was effective all game, completing his first six pass attempts. He completed 12-of-14 passes for 115 yards. He also ran the ball twice for 14 yards and a touchdown.
Berks Catholic was led by Rose on the ground. He carried the ball a team-high 24 times for 116 yards and two touchdowns. He also caught two passes for 15 yards.
Jackson Kozik was Suski’s favorite target all game, catching six passes for 82 yards.
Berks Catholic will visit Bethlehem Catholic next Thursday.
