Beau Fegely carried Fleetwood to a season-opening victory with his legs, running for four touchdowns.
Friday he did it with hands, intercepting three first-quarter passes to ignite a 31-24 non-league victory over Schuylkill Valley at Leesport.

Those early picks, along with Fegely’s 70-yard TD run, helped the Tigers (2-1) get out to an 18-0 lead, enough of a cushion to hold off the Panthers (1-2), who staged a late rally and had a chance to win the game.
Fegely became just the third Fleetwood player to intercept three or more passes in a game.
“I have not done that in a game before,” said the junior safety. “It was surreal. I didn’t even believe it was true until after the game.”
Fleetwood, which also got an interception from Tanner Zornek, led 31-7 lead late in the third quarter before allowing 17 unanswered points to finish the game.
Schuylkill Valley scored a pair of touchdowns early in the fourth quarter. Tight end Sebastian Batista’s 26-yard pass from Alex Aletras cut the deficit to seven points with 8:27 remaining.
The Panthers’ defense sparked the comeback bid with a pair of interceptions. They had a chance to tie it or take the lead in the final minutes but turned the ball over on downs at the 7 following a fourth-down incompletion with 1:37 left.

“We were lucky to be in it,” Schuylkill Valley coach Bruce Harbach said. “We tried to make some adjustments at halftime, but we were too far down. The kids got out and played better ball in the second half, just too many turnovers. We had opportunities . . . we’re a young group and we made too many mistakes.”
Fegely said the key to building the early lead was pressuring Aletras, who showed how dangerous he can be by throwing five TDs last week against Daniel Boone.
“We knew that he wouldn’t handle the pressure well,” Fegely said.
Fleetwood quarterback Chase McMonagle completed 16-of-30 passes for 205 yards and three touchdowns.
Wide receiver Bryan Robledo had six receptions, including two touchdown passes in the first half.
Tight end Bryce Ryan caught five passes for 64 yards, including a 15-yard scoring pass for a 31-7 lead with 3:38 left in the third quarter.
Schuylkill Valley senior back Brandon Pyle scored on runs of 4 and 1 yards.
The Tigers have won five straight in the series. Schuylkill Valley hasn’t won in this series since 2018.
Fleetwood surprised Schuylkill Valley last year, using a punt return touchdown to spark a 22-10 upset. That loss must’ve ignited a fire under the Panthers, who didn’t lose again the rest of the regular season.
