State rankings: Wilson tumbles after one-sided district championship loss

Wilson’s six-week stay in the state rankings ended with a resounding thud and 42-14 loss to Harrisburg in a District 3 Class 6A final. The Bulldogs, ranked No. 5 last week, fell out of the Top 10 and are listed as an honorable mention.
Exeter and Wyomissing also dropped after losses in their district title games, but not as dramatically.
Exeter, which fell to fifth-ranked Bishop McDevitt 48-14 in the Class 5A championship, fell two spots to No. 8; McDevitt rose to No. 3.
Wyomissing, which lost in overtime to Lampeter-Strasburg in the 4A title game, fell one spot to No. 4. The Pioneers moved up to No. 2, from No. 3. They now play No. 1 Thomas Jefferson in a state semifinal battle of unbeatens.
Harrisburg, meanwhile, moved up two spots to No. 4. It faces No. 2 Pittsburgh Central Catholic in a state final. McDevitt jumped two spots to No. 3 and faces No. 1 Pine-Richland.
Wilson is one of three District 3 teams in the honorable mention list, along with league rival Manheim Township and Central York, each of which it defeated.
Twin Valley, which spent several weeks at No. 1 in Class 4A, remains an honorable mention pick; its season ended in the district semifinals.
