State rankings: Unbeaten Twin Valley moves up; Exeter makes debut

Twin Valley inched up one spot, to No. 3, in the PennLive.com Class 4A state rankings this week after a record-setting rout of Olney Charter.

The Raiders had never appeared in the Top 10 until last season; they rose to No. 4 last week, the highest ranking in program history.

Twin Valley is one of four Berks teams in the rankings this week. Exeter enters for the first time, as a Team To Watch in Class 5A, joining Wyomissing and Wilson.

Wyomissing remains No. 5 in Class 4A; Wilson remains listed as a Team To Watch following its 35-31 loss at Nazareth, which remains No. 5.

Exeter won its first eight games last year and spent several weeks in the Top 10. Overall, this is the Eagles’ 44th appearance in the state rankings; they have spent 30 weeks in the Top 10.

There were few other changes in the rankings.

Defending District 3 Class 6A champ Harrisburg returns to the Top 10, at No. 10, after beating State College 7-6. The Cougars are one of four District 3 teams in the 6A rankings. Manheim Township is No. 7 and Central York is listed with Wilson as a Team To Watch.

In Class 4A, there are three teams in the Top 10, with Lampeter-Strasburg joining Twin Valley and Wyomissing. They’re each members of Section 4 of the Lancaster-Lebanon League.
