State rankings: Twin Valley returns to Top 10

Twin Valley spent most of last season in the state rankings. Now, after two impressive wins to start the season, the Raiders are back, debuting at No. 10 in PennLive.com’s Class 4A rankings.
Twin Valley was not listed even as a Team To Watch before last week; a 62-0 rout of Selinsgrove on the road no doubt garnered some attention.
The Raiders are joined in the state rankings by Exeter, which remains No. 5 in Class 5A, and Wyomissing, which moves up one spot in 4A to No. 4. Also, Conrad Weiser has been added as a Team To Watch in Class 5A after a 2-0 start.
Wyomissing moved up on the strength of its impressive 29-26 win over Inter-AC power Haverford School.
Twin Valley opened last season ranked No. 7 in the state and remained in the Top 10 for nine consecutive weeks, with three weeks at No. 1. It was bounced from the rankings after consecutive losses to Wyomissing and Lampeter-Strasburg; it returned as a Team To Watch for the final seven weeks of the season.
Twin Valley is one of just three Berks team to ever achieve a No. 1 ranking, along with Wyomissing and Gov. Mifflin.
Exeter is the highest-ranked District 3 team in Class 5A. Defending champ Bishop McDevit slipped to No. 8 after a second straight loss, 29-21 to Harrisburg, which is ranked No. 2 in Class 6A.
Lancaster Catholic, No. 10 in Class 2A, is the only other Top 10 team from the Lancaster-Lebanon League. Manheim Township, in 6A, and Lampeter-Strasburg, in 4A, are Teams To Watch. The Pioneers fell from No. 8 following a 14-7 loss to Warwick.
One top-ranked team was knocked off last week. Pine-Richland, which was No. 1 in Class 5A, lost 30-24 to Pittsburgh Central Catholic, the No. 5 team in 6A.
