State rankings: Twin Valley moves closer to the top in Class 4A

Another lopsided win, another move up for Twin Valley in the PennLive.com Class 4A state rankings.

The Raiders, who have won their four games by an average of 42.2 points, have moved up to No. 2, the highest ranking ever for the 29-year-old program.

The Raiders become just the fifth Berks program to ascend as high as No. 2 in the state rankings. Gov. Mifflin and Wyomissing have each been ranked No. 1; Wilson and Exeter have each peaked at No. 2.

Twin Valley is one of four Berks teams listed in the rankings this week. Wyomissing moved up one spot to No. 4 in Class 4A; the Spartans began the season at No. 5, slipped with a Week 2 loss, and have moved up after two straight wins.

Wilson, in Class 6A, and Exeter, in Class 5A, are each listed among teams to watch.

There are two other Lancaster-Lebanon League teams in the rankings: Manheim Township is No. 7 in Class 6A and Lampeter-Strasburg is No. 6 in Class 4A.

Section 4 of the Lancaster-Lebanon League can boast of three teams in the Top 10: Twin Valley, Wyomissing, and Lampeter-Strasburg, all in 4A.

Twin Valley moved up when second-ranked Jersey Shore took its first loss, falling 30-28 to Shamokin, which is now No. 7 in Class 4A.

One other No. 2 lost last week: Southern Columbia. The Tigers fall five spots to No. 7 in Class 2A after a 7-6 loss to Mount Carmel, which vaults into the Class 3A rankings at No. 7.
