Starting Lineup, now complete, features the top prospects in Berks football
The “Starting Lineup” roster is now complete.
It includes the top 11 football players in Berks County, led by Penn State recruit Caleb Brewer and Princeton recruit Ryker Jones – both Wyomissing.
Six or more are expected to play at the Division I level, including Exeter’s Zach Zandier, who has committed to Coastal Carolina; Fleetwood’s Hunter Svoboda, who has committed to William & Mary; Wilson’s Jack Dendall, who is weighing several offers at this point; and Hamburg’s Mason Semmel, who has an offer from St. Francis.
Ten of the 11 will be playing college football at this time next year; the lone exception is Muhlenberg sophomore Michael Miller, the only underclassmen on the prestigious list.
The team represents eight schools, with Exeter, Wilson and Wyomissing each claiming two spots.
The “Starting Lineup” is heavy with lineman – literally. There are three Division I tackles: Brewer, Svoboda and Dendall, as well as three tight ends. Also, three linebackers.
It’s easy to pick a glorified all-star team and fill it with quarterbacks and running backs, but not here. In fact, there are no starting QBs among the 11 players, just one full-time running back, Schuylkill Valley’s Dominic Giuffre, and one full-time wide receiver, Wilson’s Edison Case.
The “Starting Lineup” team was selected by MikeDragoSports.com, with input from Berks high school coaches and Ross Tucker, co-founder and CEO of GoBigRecruiting.com and a former NFL lineman. Tucker, who played at Wyomissing, has deep contacts throughout college football and remains dialed into Berks football.
Players were selected based on past performance, expected contributions this season and college potential. Two-way players were given special consideration.
Tomorrow the “Berks Watch List” will be presented. It includes about five dozen of the other top players in Berks.
