HARRISBURG — Wyomissing’s last touchdown of the season came a minute too soon.
When that minute — or, precisely, 59 seconds — was gone, Susquehanna Township had an epic, 37-35 win over the Spartans and a berth in the District 3 Class 4A championship game.

The top-seeded Indians (12-0) won it on a 15-yard pass from Torin Evans to Josh Nengite, who made a leaping catch in the back of a crowded end zone with no time on the clock in a spectacular semifinal at Roscoe Warner Field Friday.
“It would have been a great game to watch if you didn’t care about who was winning,’’ Wyomissing coach Bob Wolfrum said. “When you get to be my age, it hurts and everything, but at the end of the game, you can say it was a hell of a game. . . both teams, really, and you can’t fault the effort of anybody.’’
There were six lead changes, 39 first downs and nearly 800 yards of offense.
Turnovers were about the only way for the defenses to stand in the way of the onslaught. In the middle of the fourth quarter, Wyomissing got one, when Andrew DiFabrizio intercepted a ball forced into traffic by Evans, who did that a few times and was picked off twice.

The third-seeded Spartans (10-2) cashed in on DiFabrizio’s pick with an 11–play drive, 10 of them runs straight out of their weathered, Wing-T playbook.
It started with 5:58 left and, as it turned out, should have been a little less efficient. Justice Hardy scored from 9 yards out to give his team a 35-31 lead.
The game clock showed :59, more than enough time for Evans, a gifted dual-threat senior who’s getting Ivy League recruiting interest.
He completed 18-of-24 passes for 218 yards and ran for 119 yards. He scrambled four times in the final drive, managing to get out-of-bounds to stop the clock each time.
“We caught him once or twice, but more often than not, he made a big play and kept drives alive,’’ Wolfrum said. “They’re spread all over the field, and the quarterback killed us with his feet, probably more than with his arm.’’
The Spartans ran for 333 yards and got a big night from Hardy, a junior who made All-State a year ago as a defensive back. He ran for 156 yards on 17 tries and scored three times, one on a 40-yard run, another on one of the Spartans’ only two pass completions, the third looking like the game-winner until Evans did his stuff.
It means the Indians (12-0) advance to the Class 4A championship game Friday opposite Twin Valley, which blasted West York 45-14 in Friday’s other semifinal.
Twin Valley is the only other team to defeat Wyomissing this season. The Spartans were going for their sixth district title in seven years, having won a Berks-record five in a row from 2019-23.
