Hamburg’s Tyler Shuey, top receivers, honored on L-L Section 5 all-league team

Record-setting Hamburg quarterback Tyler Shuey pulled his top receivers along with him onto the Lancaster-Lebanon League Section 5 all-league team, it was announced Tuesday night at the annual coach’s banquet at Mount Gretna.
Shuey passed for 2,762 yards and 25 touchdowns in 11 games, most of it to junior wide receiver Ty Werley and senior tight end Mason Semmel, who joined him on the first team.
Annville-Cleona, which finished in a three-way tie for first place in Section 5 with Schuylkill Valley and Lancaster Catholic, had a section-leading eight first-team picks. Catholic was next with seven picks.
Schuylkill Valley had four, Hamburg three and Kutztown two.
Half of the league’s major awards went to Annville-Cleona, with senior tackle Darrian Holloway earning Offensive Lineman of the Year and Outstanding Lineman. The Dutchmen’s Cael Harter was Defensive Back of the Year and teammate Jon Shay was Defensive Lineman of the Year.
Lancaster Catholic senior running back Elijah Cunningham, who rushed for 1,802 yards and 28 TDs, was both the Offensive Back of the Year and the Outstanding Back.
Schuylkill Valley senior defensive back Colby Crills was one of six repeat selections. He is joined on the first team by three teammates: Junior wide receiver Kowen Gerner, freshman placekicker Reese Wamsher and junior outside linebacker Luke Spotts.
Wamsher is the lone freshman on the 33-player first team. There is just one sophomore, Brandon Way of Lancaster Catholic, selected as an Athlete on offense, a kick returner, and a defensive back. Way is the only three-way pick.
There are just six repeat selections.
Semmel, a second-team pick as a junior, had a team-leading 43 receptions for 884 yards and 12 TDs. He set program single-season marks for catches, receiving yards and TD receptions and finished with a program-record 1,130 career receiving yards.
Werley caught 28 passes for 624 yards and five TDs and set a single-game record with 253 receiving yards.
Shuey set program records for passing yards and touchdowns passes in a season, as well as completions (170) in a season.
Gerner had a team-leading 48 receptions for 976 yards and a program-record 11 receiving TDs. His receiving yards were second-most in program history.
The teams are selected in a vote of Section 5 coaches.
