Schuylkill Valley finds football opponent for Friday night after opener is postponed by COVID

Schuylkill Valley will play a game on opening night, after all.

One day after learning its opener against Annville-Cleona was postponed due to COVID-related isses at the Lebanon County school, Schuylkill Valley has added Springfield-Montco.

The Panthers will play Friday at 7 at the Springfield Township school.

The Springfield Spartans went 2-2 last season during a COVID-shortened season. Their scheduled opener against Kennsington was also postponed earlier this week due to a COVID situation.

Annville-Cleona announced its news via Twitter Monday afternoon. Annville-Cleona athletic director Tommy Long confirmed to MikeDragoSports.com that COVID-related issues at the school triggered the decision. Schuylkill Valley officials were notified Monday afternoon.

The game has been rescheduled to Friday, Nov. 5, at Annville-Cleona.

Kutztown played Annville-Cleona in a scrimmage Saturday.

“It’s very disappointing,” Long told the Lebanon Dailey News. “Just getting through last year, we were hoping this would be more of a normal year. But it definitely hasn’t started that way, it seems like, and it doesn’t look like Annville is the only school.”
