KINZERS — Schuylkill Valley scored three touchdowns in the first nine minutes Friday night to put away Pequea Valley on its way to a 33-0 Lancaster-Lebanon League Section 5 victory.

The shutout was the first for the Panthers (2-0, 3-2) since a win at York Vo-Tech in 2019.

The Braves (0-2, 2-3) had negative yardage and no first downs on their first three drives, including two lost fumbles, one of which was returned by Dillon Lackner for a 31-yard touchdown.

Lackner also scored twice on passes, of 12 and 7 yards, from quarterback Logan Nawrocki.

Schuylkill Valley’s defense allowed just 130 total yards.

“When you start off a game like that making mistakes and you give up some early touchdowns (it’s tough),” Pequea Valley coach Mike Choi said.

“Our offense is a Wing-T offense and we aren’t built to score every two minutes,” he said. “It’s going to take us some time to cultivate drives. It’s tough to come back.”

The win was the second straight for Schuylkill Valley, which pounded Kutztown 50-24 last week in its league opener.

The Panthers have a key league match-up next week at Berks Catholic.

Choi did like what he saw after the initial Schuylkill Valley outburst. The Braves went on a 19-play drive that gained 83 yards but fell short on fourth-and-goal.

The Braves moved the ball on the following series and got into the red zone but the drive ended with another turnover on downs.

“At that point it’s 20 to nothing and we are down there to the 4-yard line and a big procedure call hurt us there,” Choi said. “When we get closer to the end zone it really is a matter of focus.”

Cooper Hohenadel ran for 75 yards and a touchdown for the Panthers to lead all rushers. Drew Tibbins had 49 yards on the ground and added three receptions for 23 yards.

The second half was a struggle for the Braves as they amassed only 42 yards and two first downs in the half.

The loss was the third straight for Pequea Valley after a surprising 2-0 start that included a pair of shutouts.

The Braves have scored just four TDs since; they lost 55-6 last week to Berks Catholic.
