Repeat this: Raiders’ Drew Engle is Wyomissing Physical Therapy Player of the Week
Some may wonder what kind of rushing and scoring numbers Drew Engle might have produced had he been able to play more than three games as a junior.
It doesn’t take much of an imagination.
As a sophomore at Twin Valley he averaged 10.5 yards on 152 carries and rushed for a program-record 1,599 yards in 12 games. As a senior he has averaged 10.4 yards on 151 carries and rushed for 1,574 yards.
Add another eight or nine games to his stat line last year, when the Raiders won nine of their 12 games, and the lightning-fast tailback would be on the brink of 5,000 career yards.
As it is, Engle owns just about every Twin Valley rushing and scoring record imaginable. He added another Friday, rushing for 250 yards and scoring four touchdowns in a 45-14 district playoff romp over West Perry to earn a second straight Wyomissing Physical Therapy Player of the Week award.
He is the first player in the five-year history of the award to win it in consecutive weeks, and the first to win it in three different seasons. Overall, he has been selected five times, matching the totals of Exeter’s Jayden Zandier and Governor Mifflin’s Nick Singleton.
Engle’s career-high rushing total Friday gave him another program record as he eclipsed Dominic Caruso’s career rushing mark of 3,684 yards. Engle now has 3,691.
His four TDs extended his single-season total to 33, fifth-most in Berks history and nearly double the previous Twin Valley record of 17. He has 57 career touchdowns, 12th-most in Berks history.
With the Raiders trailing 14-0 Friday – by far their biggest deficit of the season — Engle ripped off a 51-yard touchdown run to get his team on the board in the final minute of the first quarter. He added scoring runs of 17 and 57 yards in the third quarter and an 8-yard score in the fourth; the Raiders ended the game with 45 unanswered points.

Engle has scored nine touchdowns in two playoff games, has 17 in his last four games and 19 in his last five – a stretch that has including three teams ranked in the Top 10 in the state at some point this year. Friday’s explosion came at the expense of a West York team that had allowed fewer points than any in District 3. The Bulldogs had allowed four touchdowns in their previous four games; Engle matched that total.
“Our offensive line is incredible,” Engle said of the five guys in front of him: Tackles Zach Troutman and Liam Sheehan, guards Greyson Miller and Andrew Boswell, and center Noah DiGiacomo.
“I love running behind them,” he said. “They’re some of our hardest workers, and they deserve so much credit because they’re really good at what they do.”
Engle is, too.
His seventh 100-yard rushing performance of the season tied the program record he set two years ago. Earlier this season he set program records for a 95-yard interception return and 388 all-purpose yards in a game – both against West Perry in the opening round of the playoffs – and for six touchdowns and 36 points in a game, against Lampeter-Strasburg.
His three kickoff returns for touchdowns this seasons are also probably a program record.
He needs 26 yards Friday against Susquehanna Township to top his single-season rushing mark and become the first in program history to reach 1,600 yards.
He continues to extend his program scoring records, currently 198 points in a season – tied for sixth-most in Berks history – and 342 points in a career.
He also continues to praise his teammates for his many achievements.
“My offensive line throughout the years has been awesome,” Engle said, remember some former teammates. “Paul McClune, Aris Drake, Carter Faubel, Masen Ketner, Greyson Miller, Noah DiGiacomo . . . I could keep naming them. Without them, I wouldn’t have been able to do it.”
Engle injured his shoulder in the season-opener last year and did not return until the opening round of the district playoffs; he finished the season with 293 yards on 43 carries, with five TDs.
Engle is committed to attend the United States Military Academy at West Point and play lacrosse for the Black Knights. Twin Valley coach Brett Myers believes that at some point Engle may add football to his mission.
Engle is the third Twin Valley player to earn the award this season, following Ryan Rementer and Greyson Miller. Engle was selected once last season and twice in 2023.
