Red Knights’ D too much for Bulldogs

Wilson has held a lot of teams under 40 points in the last few seasons but no one’s done that to the Bulldogs in awhile.

Reading High did it Tuesday, winning 64-36 at West Lawn, and you shouldn’t be too surprised. The unbeaten Red Knights are capable of doing that to a lot of teams.

They held La Salle College to 32 points Saturday and Exeter to 40 points in their Berks Conference Division I opener Friday.

Ruben Rodriguez

The Bulldogs (0-2, 3-2) managed just six field goals through the first three quarters Tuesday. They finished with their lowest point total since a 50-34 loss to Downingtown East late in the 2018-2019 season. Leading scorer Cameron Jones was limited to one field goal and a season-low five points.

The Red Knights (2-0, 5-0) had a balanced scoring attack as Ruben Rodriguez scored 15 points, Daniel Alcantara 14 and Myles Grey 13.

Reading lead 28-10 after one period. The Red Knights opened the third quarter with a 7-0 run to lead 45-22.

Foday Sillah led Wilson with 10 points.

The Red Knights next play Thursday against Lower Merion, at 76ers Field House in Wilmington. Wilson plays next in the Hempfield Tournament, on Monday.

Last season the rivals waged a furious four-game series, each winning twice. The Bulldogs won at home and in the Berks Conference championship game at Berks Catholic. The Red Knights won at the Geigle and in the District 3 Class 6A championship game at BC.

That final meeting ended Wilson’s season and allowed Reading to advance to the PIAA Tournament, where it won the title for the second time in five seasons.

Reading High leads the all-time series 77-34. The teams have split their last 14 meetings.
