Record-setting performance by Trey Freeman lifts Twin Valley playoff hopes
Trey Freeman had 10 receptions in a record-shattering performance as Twin Valley beat visiting Executive Education Academy 31-12 in a non-league game Friday.
Dominic Caruso scored three touchdowns as the Raiders improved to 6-3 and enhanced their chances to make the District 3 Tournament for the first time.
As of late Saturday they were unofficially ranked No. 10 in the district Class 5A power ratings; the top 14 teams qualify.
Twin Valley closes its season Friday at Gettysburg (6-3), which is ranked No. 11 in 5A.
Freeman set program single-game records for receptions and for his 189 receiving yards; his 947 receiving yards smashed the single-season mark of 818, set by Nick Kurtz in 2018.
He’s now within 17 yards of the Berks record for career receiving yards, 2,110, set by Wyomissing’s Nolan McCready in 2001. Freeman has 2,093 yards and is just the second player in Berks history to top 2,000 yards.
Freeman extended his program records for career receptions (104) and career touchdowns catches (19) and is within one of Kurtz’s record of 46 catches in a season, set in 2018.
Caruso scored on a 10-yard run and Freeman on a 60-yard pass as the Raiders took a 17-0 lead over the Raptors (4-5) in the first quarter.
Caruso’s 5-yard run in the third quarter extended the lead to 24-0.
Freshman quarterback Evan Myers completed 11-of-16 passes for 194 yards for the Raiders.
The Raiders clinched a winning record for the first time since 2007, when they finished 7-5 and earned their first postseason berth. They reached the Eastern Conference championship game that season, losing to Wilkes-Barre Coughlin 16-13.
The Raiders rushed for 181 yards and had 375 total yards. Evan Johnson led them with 59 rushing yards. Caruso had 41 yards on 17 carries.
