Reading High’s DeShawn Wilson is Wyomissing Physical Therapy Offensive Player of the Week
Wyomissing Physical Therapy Offensive Player of the Week
DeShawn Wilson is “built a little bit different” than most football players, says Reading High coach Andre Doyle.
“When others tire, he can get a 20-second break and he’s ready to go again,” Doyle said. “He’s just got something a little bit different, because he trains at a high level at all times so that’s hes able to compete at a high level.”
Friday Wilson was playing at the highest level, scoring five touchdowns in five different ways to lead the Red Knights to a 42-22 victory at Lebanon and earn Wyomissing Physical Therapy Offensive Player of the Week honors.

The 5-9, 170-pound senior scored, in order: on a 68-yard interception return,74-yard reception, 97-yard kickoff return, 70-punt return and 85-yard run. All told, he had 192 yards from scrimmage and 266 yards of returns.
The only other way to score a touchdown is on a fumble return.
Other than that Wilson had it all covered.
“A lot of people have speed,” said Doyle, “but when it comes to game speed, and him understanding all different facets of football, he puts all those things together.”
Wilson is a talented all-around athlete who helped the Red Knights basketball on its run to the District 3 Class 6A and PIAA championships last season.
As a sophomore he was the Red Knights’ leading receiver, with 22 receptions for 325 yards.
When the Reading School District canceled football last fall and went to all-virtual classrooms he transferred to a Florida school because he and his family wanted him to have in-person schooling.
He is a strong student getting looks from several Ivy League schools.
“There are people who might be as smart as DeShawn, or have his type of talent or training and conditioning,” Doyle said, “but there are very few young men who put it all together every single day the way he does.”
Wilson has accepted an invitation to play in the Dream All-American Bowl at AT&T Stadium on Jan. 17.
