The Red Knights (1-4, 1-7) were coming off their only victory of the season, against McCaskey.

Reading was shut out for the third straight season by the Blue Streaks (4-0, 7-1), who have won 10 straight in the series. Reading’s last win over Township came in 2003.

All three Township units contributed in the game’s first minutes.

The defense got the party started when Riley Rontal intercepted a pass and returned it to the Reading 9-yard line. Running back Marcos Fernandez took over from there, plowing into the end zone on the Blue Streaks’ first offensive play.

After the defense forced a three-and-out, Township took over at the Red Knights’ 38. On the Streaks’ first play, quarterback Jack Kenneff threw a 38-yard touchdown pass, but it was called back due to a penalty.

The senior quarterback was unfazed, using his legs on the very next play to race up the middle on a delayed quarterback draw before zagging to the right sideline and dragging multiple would-be tacklers with him into the end zone for a 38-yard run.

On the ensuing kickoff, Township’s Jonathan Kemper forced a fumble that was recovered in the end zone by Grant Sages. Add that all up, and after running two official offensive plays, Township led 21-0.

After that fast start, Township did not slow down. Kenneff hit Allan Feliciano multiple times to move the ball before again using his legs to plunge in from the 1-yard line for a touchdown.

Running back Dehvyn Lauano tacked on the next score with a 2-yard touchdown run. Wide receiver Daryus Dixon scored the next two touchdowns, the first a 52-yard pass from Kenneff and the second on a 15-yard throw from Dayne Byler.

PJ Myers had TD runs of 55 yards, 20 yards and 4 yards in the third quarter.
