SELINSGROVE – Starting running backs tend to wear down as the game goes on, but not at Twin Valley.

The Raiders boast a two-headed-monster of starting-quality tailbacks in Drew Engle and Lucas Myers. Their abilities were on full display in a 62-0 romp of Selinsgrove in a non-league contest Friday night at Bolig Memorial Stadium.
Myers ran for 135 yards, doing his damage on only eight carries. He scored three touchdowns, which he also did in Twin Valley’s 45-19 season-opening win over Berks Catholic last Friday.
Engle tallied 138 yards on 14 carries, breaking off two touchdown runs.
Both take on every carry with a full head of steam. When one breaks off a big run, the other is there to give a breather.
“It’s awesome to get a break and watch Drew make a 90-yard run and be able to cheer for him,” Myers said. “It’s great to be able to rotate and celebrate with the running backs.”
Engle broke off one of those signature big runs instantly, taking a 38-yard carry to the house on one of the first plays of the game. Myers scored on a 25-yard run on the next drive before first-year starting quarterback Maverik Foster and Ben Grundy connected over the middle for a 77-yard score.
“We had a really good week of practice when it came to effort and mindset,” Twin Valley coach Brett Myers said of his team’s quick start. “I thought that we played a little bit faster and a little bit harder this week than we did last week.
Engle holds the program’s single-season rushing record, set in his sophomore year. He missed most of last season with an injury but has picked up right where he let off so far this season. He capped off the first half with a 9-yard score as the halftime buzzer sounded for his other score.

Myers, on the other hand, is stepping into a much bigger role this season. He’s proving his worth with six touchdown runs in the first two games. When he ran for 7- and 76-yard scores in the second quarter, he had a touchdown trot for every quarter played.
Wideout Grant Moser also got a 21-yard touchdown run in the second frame on a reverse play.
“We were working hard all week,” Lucas Myers said. “Everything seemed to fit right. So I wasn’t surprised by (the final score).”
The Raiders (2-0) ran for 417 yards on the ground while limiting the Seals (0-2) to less than a yard per carry. Much of that domination came from the success of Twin Valley’s big guys up front. Selinsgrove coach Matt Wenrich even suggested a new name for the school.
“That is a ginormous football team,” he said. “It could be Twin Mountain. They are huge on both sides of the ball. They definitely dominated the line of scrimmage tonight.”
Twin Valley has now dominated both games of a two-year series against the Seals. The Raiders were hoping for more competition when they scheduled the series; the Seals were fresh off a 4A state semifinal appearance at the time.
The Raiders next get 0-2 Simon Gratz, which has lost its first two games by a combined margin of 105 points. They’ll have to wait for that better competition that they desire. Until then, Twin Valley will keep running all over the opposition.
“We pride ourselves on running the ball,” Brett Myers said. “(Our line) works hard and does all the right stuff.”
