Quadruple threat: Wilson’s Cam Jones rare four-way All-Star in L-L Section 1
Triple threats are rare in football.
But a quadruple threat? Is that even a thing?
With a multi-talented player such Cam Jones, it is. The Wilson senior, who dominated play in every phase of the game throughout the Lancaster-Lebanon League Section 1 season, has been named named a first-team all-league pick at four positions.
Oh, and he’s also the Section 1 Offensive Back of the Year . . . and the Defensive Back of the Year . . . and the section’s Outstanding Back.
Quite a haul, possibly unmatched in Section 1 history, almost certainly never topped.
Jones, a Holy Cross recruit, rushed for a Section 1-leading 999 yards and 19 TDs, returned five punts for touchdowns and was such a lock-down cornerback teams rarely, if ever, challenged him.
He accounted for four of Wilson’s nine first-team picks, being selected at running back, kick returner, defensive back and long snapper.
Section 1 champ Hempfield also had nine first-team picks, including Outstanding Lineman Deyvid Palepale, in voting done by the section’s seven head coaches. The awards were announced at the league’s annual coach’s banquet Tuesday night.
Reading High’s Ruben Rodriguez shared Receiver of the Year honors with Manheim Township’s Landon Kennel. Red Knights teammate Amier Burdine was one of four three two-way selections, earning first-team honors at defensive back and Athlete.
Wilson’s other first-team picks were center Logan Kurzweg, tackle Jack Dendall, interior defensive lineman Brendan Hopp and defensive end Nick Weitzel. Dendall, a junior, is a repeat pick.
Jones earned two first-team spots and two second-team spots as a junior.
