Blazers update: Have won five of their last six, their best stretch since the glory days of the Dave Bodolus era, from 2003-11, when they won or shared three section crowns… In position to earn first District 3 playoff berth since 2014… Sitting at No. 10 in Class 5A; top 14 qualify… However, they play the state’s top-ranked team this week and finish with Exeter next week… Could possibly make the field without another win… AJ Hofer ran for 140 yards and two TDs last week in 35-0 win over Reading High… It was first shutout win since beating Owen J. Roberts 42-0 in 2019… Soph QB Dean Rotter has completed 61.7 percent of his passes, with 12 TDs and two INTs since taking over for injured Carter Speyerer in Week 1… He is ranked fourth among Berks passers with a 155.4 efficiency rating… His 12-to-2 TDs-to-INT ratio is the best in the league… Senior WR Alex Vassallo is second in the league in receiving, with 44 receptions; he led Berks last season with 41 catches in eight games… Allowing 18.8 points; only Wyomissing and Gov. Mifflin are allowing fewer points per game.

Mustangs update: Extended regular season winning streak to 20 last week with 49-0 win over Muhlenberg… Nick Singleton scored three first-quarter TDs to give him 101 in his record-breaking career… He has rushed for a Berks-record 5,661 career yards… He has a Berks-leading 1,394 yards this season… He needs 396 yards to top Isaac Ruoss’ program record of 1,789… He’s still 1,009 yards away from David Gilmore’s Berks single-season mark of 2,403… He needs three TDs to match the program record of 32 he set as a sophomore… Ranked No. 2 in Berks in total offense and No. 1 in rushing at 380 yards per game… Winning by 39.1 points per game; set a Berks record last year by winning by an average of 39.9 points… Ranked No. 1 in the state in Class 5A.

Fast fact: Gov. Mifflin has won 11 straight in the series, seven by mercy rule. Daniel Boone’s last win came in 2009.
