PIAA renews deal to play football championships at Chapman Field

Fans and players hoping to play a state football championship at storied Hersheypark Stadium will have to keep their wishes on the shelf for another four years.

The PIAA announced today that it has renewed its deal with Cumberland Valley to host the football championships for the next four years.

The PIAA, disenchanted with its treatment at Hershey, and with Hershey Entertainment’s refusal to update the aging facility, moved away from that venue following the 2021 championship.

Championship games in each of the six classifications have been played at Chapman Field for the last four seasons, starting in 2022.

Twin Valley became the first Berks participant to play a football championship there; the Raiders lost to Southern Columbia in the Class 4A game in December.

The PIAA’s new deal will extend through the 2029-30 scholastic season.

It also finalized arrangements for its other fall sports on Wednesday.

Field hockey will continue to be played at Cumberland Valley but other sports which had been played at that location have been moved to new locations.

Soccer championships will be played at Highmark Stadium in Pittsburgh. The team and individual tennis championships will be played at Hershey Raquet Club. Golf will be played at Penn State. Cross country will be run at Big Spring High School. Volleyball will played at Saint Francis University.
