Nick Singleton says he has unfinished business at Penn State
Nick Singleton has often said one of his goals is to be a first-round pick in the NFL draft.
By staying at Penn State for his senior season the running back from Gov. Mifflin has a better chance to realize that dream.
Less than a week after a devastating loss to Notre Dame in the Orange Bowl, Penn State’s leading rusher confirmed today he will be returning to the Nittany Lions for a fourth season.
“We have accomplished a lot here, and we took another big step forward this season,” Singleton wrote on a social media post. “But we know we are capable of being even better.
“After discussing my football future with my family, I have decided to return to Penn State for the 2025 season. We still have goals we want to reach as a team, and I want to be alongside my teammates as we reach those goal.”
Singleton ran for three touchdowns and was positioned to be named Orange Bowl Most Valuable Player before a late interception set the Fighting Irish up for a field goal and 27-24 victory.
He ran 15 times for 84 yards and scored on runs of 5, 7, and 7 yards, the last giving Penn State a 24-17 lead with 7:55 remaining.

Singleton finished his junior season with 1,099 rushing yards and became just the ninth player in program history to top 1,000 yards twice.
He’s in position to become the program’s leading rusher, and to break Saquon Barkley’s program record for most yards from scrimmage.
Singleton is 1,021 yards away from passing Evan Royster for most rushing yards in school history, is second all-time with 41 touchdowns, and is fourth all-time with 4,673 all-purpose yards.
He scored 17 touchdowns this season.
Singleton’s post made it sound that one of his chief reasons for returning is to have another shot at a national championship. He also said it will give him a chance to graduate; he is on track to complete his undergraduate degree next fall.
“It has been an honor to don the blue and white for the last three seasons,” he wrote. “When I set foot in Beaver Stadium, I am always aware just how special this place is. Playing in front of college football’s great fans is something I have never taken for granted.
“I have been extremely lucky to play for Coach Franklin, Coach Seider and the rest of this incredible coaching staff.
“The guys in that running back room, along with the rest of my teammates, are men I will appreciate forever. It has been a privilege to play with those guys, and they mean the world to me.”
Kaytron Allen, who splits time in the backfield with Singleton, also announced his intention to return next season, as has quarterback Drew Allar and several other key players.
