Peyton Falzone, who threw four touchdown passes in handing Wilson it’s only regular season loss, has decommitted from Virginia Tech five months after verbally committing to the Hokies, according to several published reports.

Falzone, who was named the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference Offensive Most Valuable Player this season, announced Wednesday that his recruitment is open.

“Reflecting on discussion with my family, I felt it was necessary to make this change,” Falzone wrote on his Twitter account on Wednesday. “It didn’t feel right to be visiting other school while being locked in with Virginia Tech. I owe it to myself, my family and the schools recruiting  me to be fully invested in every opportunity I receive during this important time.”

Falzone, a junior, completed 13-of-23 passes for 254 yards and ran 50 yards for the go-ahead touchdown in a 35-31 win over Wilson in Week 3 at Nazareth. The Bulldogs won their final seven regular season games and extended their winning streak to nine games in the district playoffs.

The 6-5, 200-pound Falzone threw for 2,136 yards and 23 touchdowns this season and rushed for 743 yards and eight touchdowns.

The son of Nazareth football head coach Tom Falzone committed to Virginia Tech in June. He has visited Wisconsin and Ohio State over the last two weekends. Prior to that he visited Virginia Tech several times after his commitment.’

“From Day One, my family and I were treated with love and respect by the entire staff at Virginia Tech,” Falzone wrote. “I am deeply thankful to Coach (Brett) Pry . . . and everyone in the Hokie family who believed in me and supported my development. I’ll always have great respect and love for Blacksburg and the Hokies.”

Falzone was named the East Penn Conference Offensive Most Valuable Player this season.

He has offers from Wisconsin, Penn State, Syracuse, Kent State, Bucknell, and Lehigh. He plans to visit Iowa and Syracuse this weekend.
