Muhls chop down Cedars, reach 4-0

Muhlenberg mercy-ruled its opponent the third straight week Friday, beating Lebanon 55-21 in a Lancaster-Lebanon League Section 2 opener for both at Laureldale.

The Cedars (0-4) saw their losing streak reach 46 games; they have not won since 2020. The state record for the longest losing streak is 56 games, set by South Philadelphia from 1990-1996.

The Muhls (4-0) started fast, scoring 21 unanswered points in the first quarter.

They got a pair of early touchdowns from All-State running back Cameron Small, who led all rushers with 174 yards. Small finished the game with four touchdowns, running for scores of 34, 18 and 7 yards and catching a 36-yard pass.

Three minutes before halftime Muhlenberg quarterback Adriel Baez connected with tight end Christian Coley for a 30-yard touchdown on his only catch for the night to make it 40-7.

Baez finished 8-for-12 for107 yards, with a pair of touchdowns. Baez, along with the rest of the Muhlenberg team, did not turn the ball over. Muhlenberg did have two takeaways and both takeaways resulted into points.

The first was a sack/fumble late in the second quarter by sophomore Julian Baez, leading to the Coley touchdown; the second was defensive back Michael Miller Jr. giving his team a 47-7 lead early in the third quarter after taking an interception back 43 yards for a TD.

The Cedars tried to hang on behind the tough running of Camron Buchmoyer, who finished with 86 rushing yards and two touchdowns.
