Mifflin grad Eden Johnson collects PSAC honors
Make it two in a row for Gov. Mifflin linebackers.
Kutztown University redshirt sophomore Eden Johnson claimed his first PSAC East Defensive Athlete of the Week honor Monday after a registering a team-leading six tackles and a sack ini Saturday’s 49-7 win over Millerville.
Johnson also returned an interception 38 yards for a touchdown.
He fourth Golden Bear accorded that honor and the second straight former Mustang; last week junior linebacker Brandon Strausser was selected.
Johnson, a Philadelphia native who played his final two seasons at Mifflin, returned a first-quarter interception for a score as the Golden Bears improved to 9-0 and clinched their second straight PSAC East title.
Johnson and the first-team defense allowed just three points in the first half as Kutztown built a 49-3 lead. The Golden Bears finished with four interceptions for the second straight game while totaling four sacks and nine tackles for loss.
Johnson joins Freddie Retter, Brandon Hile, and Strausser as Golden Bears recognized as PSAC East Defensive Athlete of the Week this season. This marks the second time that KU has claimed the award in consecutive weeks.
