Mifflin extends season with berth in Eastern Conference playoffs

Governor Mifflin will continue its season Friday at Pocono Mountain West in the Eastern Conference Class 5A/6A championship game. Kickoff against the Panthers has been set for 5.
The Mustangs (3-7) missed out on the district playoffs after losing their final two games but finished second in the Eastern Conference power ratings.
The EC playoffs are for teams that miss the district playoffs.
Pocono Mountain West (5-5) got off to a 3-0 start this season but ended the season with losses in four of its final five games to fall out of the District 11 Class 6A playoff chase.
The Panthers play in the Mountain Division of the Eastern Pennsylvania Conference with Stroudsburg, East Stroudsburg South, Pleasant Valley, and Pocono Mountain East.
The Panthers lost to Pleasant Valley 28-21 in Week 9; the Mustangs beat Pleasant Valley 35-20 in the season opener.
Mifflin’s only other win against a playoff-qualifier came in Week 3, 20-19 over Hempfield, which enters the District 3 Class 6A Tournament as the No. 6 seed.

Senior tailback Patrick Steuer leads Mifflin with 698 rushing yards and five touchdowns. Quarterback LeBron Leaf has rushed for 438 yards and 12 TDs and thrown for 524 yards and four TDs.
Freshman Jack Miller got the start at quarterback in the regular season finale against Ephrata and completed 15-of-29 passes for 157 yards and a TD without an interception.
This is Mifflin’s fourth appearance in the Eastern Conference playoffs.
It won the championship in its first appearance, in 2004, beating East Stroudsburg South for the title. The Mustangs appeared in the EC playoffs in 2005 and 2023. Overall, they have a 3-2 record.
Mifflin finished in sixth place in Section 2 of the Lancaster-Lebanon League, going 1-5.
The Mustangs made the district playoffs last season after a 5-5 regular season finish.
This will mark their fourth straight season with a losing record after a program-record 18 straight winning seasons.
