Michal Menet hooks up with Cardinals, again

Looks like Michal Menet won’t be able to see his brother Joey and his former team play Friday night when Exeter hosts Muhlenberg.

The former All-State lineman is headed back to Arizona, will he will re-join the Cardinals after being added to the team’s practice squad Wednesday.

The Cardinals announced the move, along with several other signings, Wednesday morning.

Menet, a seventh-round draft pick of the Cardinals this spring, was released late in training camp, then re-signed to the practice squad a few days later.

Menet was signed Wednesday along with offensive linemen Danny Isidora and Shaq Calhoun; like Menet, Calhoun went through training camp with the Cardinals.

They also added veteran cornerback Quinton Dunbar to the practice squad to take the place of Antonio Hamilton, who was moved up to the 53-man roster.

The team released cornerback Mazzi Wilkins from the practice squad.

The 6-4, 300-pound Menet was a three-year starter and two-time captain with the Nittany Lions, and entered the May draft as one of the top collegiate centers in the nation.

After being released three weeks ago, Menet returned home and was on the sidelines at Don Thomas Stadium to watch his brother, junior receiver Joey Schlaffer, catch a touchdown pass in a 42-14 win over Wilson.

Menet faced stiff competition during camp from two veteran centers on the Arizona roster, and it did not come as a major surprise that he didn’t make the club’s opening roster.

Menet spent time during camp learning from veterans Rodney Hudson, considered by many the top center in the NFL, and Max Garcia, a veteran who has started at both center and guard during his career.

“I’ve really been able to learn a ton from them, especially with Max, because he’s played guard and center throughout his career,” Menet told MikeDragoSports.com last month. “There’s a ton of guys to learn from, a ton of great examples of how to practice.”
