NEFFSVILLE — If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Manheim Township stuck to this mantra Friday night to lead the charge, riding the legs of running back PJ Myers to a non-league 37-31 victory over Plymouth-Whitemarsh.

It wasn’t easy, though. After spotting the Colonials an early lead, the Streaks (3-1) dominated the middle of the game, but saw Plymouth-Whitemarsh score two fourth-quarter touchdowns on runs by Michael Bongard to close the gap. But that’s when Myers finished things off on the final drive with a 26-yard gain to ice the clock

After falling behind 14-0 early, Manheim Township handed the ball off repeatedly to Myers, helping the Blue Streaks to take control of the game as they outscored Plymouth-Whitemarsh 28-3 the rest of the first half. His biggest highlight of the night came on a 61-yard touchdown run early in the second half, sending the once quieted crowd into an effervescent eruption on Youth Football and Cheerleading Night in Neffsville. Myers ended the game with 23 carries for 188 yards and three touchdowns.

Myers’ 3-yard touchdown run gave the Streaks their first lead at 21-14 late in the second quarter. After surrendering a field goal, Manheim Township put together a huge drive in the final minute of the first half, sparked by a 37-yard pass over the middle from Jack Kenneff to Daryus Dixon. A few plays later, Township sealed its first-half comeback with a 3-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Kenneff to Allan Feliciano.

A frenetic first quarter saw dramatic momentum swings as both teams scored multiple touchdowns within a matter of seconds.

Plymouth-Whitemarsh (1-3) struck first, jumping out to a 14-0 lead.

Plymouth-Whitemarsh’s Amir Butler brought pressure from the right side, catching Kenneff and causing a fumble. A 37-yard end around run by James Cain got the Colonials’ offense rolling, setting up a 7-yard touchdown run by Michael Giangiulio.

A rough start for the Blue Streaks got worse on the first play of their second drive, as Plymouth-Whitemarsh’s Jaiden Molleta-James jumped a sideline route and returned an interception 43 yards to give the Colonials a 14-0 lead.

It was then Township’s turn to produce lightning in a bottle with two quick scores.

The Streaks got back to basics on their next drive, handing the ball off seven times to Myers, who pounded through the line repeatedly for 42 yards. The Blue Streaks finished the drive with a 7-yard touchdown pass from Kenneff to Dixon.

On the ensuing kickoff, the Blue Streaks forced a fumble, followed by a 27-yard scoring strike from Kenneff to Dixon right down the seam. A two-point conversion run by Will Milazzo tied the game at 14-14.

The Township defense and special teams also came up huge early in the fourth quarter to keep a safe lead, stopping the Colonials in a first-and-goal situation and then blocking a field goal.
