Lancaster-Lebanon Section 3 champ Solanco reaps 11 first-team all-league picks

Ephrata’s Andre Weidman was the most dominant back in Section 3 of the Lancaster-Lebanon League but it was Solanco’s line play, balance and depth which led to a perfect regular season and section crown.

The league’s coaches backed that up Tuesday at their annual banquet, honoring the Mules with 11 first-team all-league selections and Tony Cox with Coach of the Year honors.

Weidman, who rushed for 1,262 yards and 16 TDs, was named Outstanding Back and Offensive Back of the Year; teammate Weston Nolt was Offensive Lineman of the Year.

Berks teams didn’t do well in their first season in the league and that was reflected in the awards presentation. Daniel Boone and Twin Valley each had one first-team selection; Fleetwood had none.

Ryan Souder of Daniel Boone was selected at linebacker; Jayd

on Goebel of Twin Valley was named the punter.

Garden Spot’s Tyler Hurst was named Outstanding Lineman and Defensive Lineman of the Year.

Solanco’s Josiah Forren was the lone three-way pick, earning first-team honors at running back, kick returner and defensive back.

The Raiders had 11 second-team selections. Ephrata had nine first-team picks and Garden Spot eight.
