Jake Fox, Michael Goad, Aden Krause named Bert Moore scholarship recipients
Jake Fox of Conrad Weiser, Michael Goad of Schuylkill Valley and Aden Krause Gov. Mifflin are the 2022 recipients of the Berks Moore Scholarship, presented by the Reading Football Officials Association.
The award, now in its sixth year, is named in honor of Moore, a long-time Berks football official and president of the organization. It is awarded to senior Berks football players pursuing education beyond high school. Each recipient receives a $1,000 scholarship.
The Kutztown Cougars are the 2022 recipient of the Joe McLaughlin Sportsmanship Award. The award is named in honor of longtime football official and RFOA president Joe McLaughlin.

The awards are usually announced at the annual Berks Football Coaches Association season-ending banquet but the banquet was not scheduled this year.
An RFOA committee reviews applications and selects recipients. Sportsmanship, teamwork, community service and citizenship are considered for the Bert Moore scholarships.
Fox played defensive line for the Scouts.
“Jake exemplifies good sportsmanship every time he hits the field,” wrote Scouts coach Alan Moyer. “Jake is one of the kindest players I have ever had the pleasure of coaching. He will be the first player to
offer an opponent his hand to pick him up following a play. He is a humble winner and a graceful loser.
“Jake is one of the rare kids who does the right thing when nobody is watching. He has a bright future.”

Fox, who plans to become a podiatrist, has an internship with Drs. Megan and Tom Shannon at Berks Foot and Ankle Surgical Associates in Shillington. He also volunteers with various non-profit organizations and is a member of the National Honor Society at Conrad Weiser.
Goad played quarterback and defensive back for the Panthers and earned second-team all-league honors in Section 5 of the Lancaster-Lebanon League as an Athlete.
“Michael was the backbone of our team,” wrote Panthers coach Bruce Harbach. “He plays fair and
follows directions. He is always encouraging teammates and works with and develops our less skilled
players. He has great respect for opponents, and the decision of referees and officials.
“Michael promotes integrity and always plays within the rules. By encouraging integrity on the field, that has translated to his positive character off the field. And, win or lose, he always ends the game with a handshake.”
Goad has been class president for the past three years and is Student Council president. He is involved in track and field and plays in the band.

Krause was a second-team all-league Section 2 offensive tackle for the Mustangs.
“On the field, Aden’s aggressive and goes to the whistle trying to get a pancake every play,” Mustangs coach Jeff Lang wrote for Krause’s application. “If he gets one, he is the kind of kid that will turn around and help up an opposing player.
“Aden xemplifies what a coach wants in his players. His attitude and character are at the top of the charts of kids I’ve coached. He is fun to be around, loves the game of football and the preparation that goes into being a good football player. He puts the team above himself, volunteers for any and all opportunities that are provided to him.”
Krause has a 3.8 GPA, taking honors and AP courses such as US History, European History, Microeconomics and Calculus.
Last year, Adam Zaorski of Muhlenberg, Ryan Corros of Twin Valley and Drew Campbell of Schuylkill Valley received Bert Moore scholarships.
