Hamburg’s Sheppard, Kutztown’s Hallock in line for major L-L Section 5 honors

Section 5 of the Lancaster-Lebanon League became known as “the fun section” this season because of its productive running backs and high-scoring offenses.

A couple of earth-movers drew some attention Tuesday at the league’s annual coaches banquet where Hamburg’s Charles Sheppard and Kutztown’s Tyler Hallock were honored for their work in the trenches.

Sheppard was named Section 5’s Outstanding Lineman, Defensive Lineman of the Year and a first-team pick at both offensive tackle and interior defensive line.

Hallock was named Offensive Lineman of the Year and a first-team pick at tackle and interior defensive line.

Lancaster Catholic, which squeezed through league play unbeaten, earned 10 first-team picks, more than any other team. Hamburg was next with seven.

The Hawks’ other first-team picks were wide receiver Cohen Correll, running back Pierce Mason, center Bryce Kamp, outside linebacker Mason Semmel and defensive back Derek Ruiz.

Schuylkill Valley had four first-team selections: running back Dominic Giuffre, tight end Luke Spotts, defensive back Colby Crills and placekicker Noah Wamsher.

Hallock was Kutztown’s only pick.

Lancaster Catholic’s Jaevon Parker was the section’s only three-way pick, earning first-team spots at wide receiver, kick returner and defensive back. He was also named Receiver of the Year and Defensive Back of the Year.

Matt Gingrich of Annville-Cleona was named Coach of the Year.

A-C’s Phoenix Music, the league’s rushing leader, was named Outstanding Back and Offensive Back of the Year.
