Hamburg rips Halifax, delivers win for Matt Hoffert in return to program

Pierce Mason and Xander Menapace each produced three touchdowns as Hamburg crushed Halifax 48-6 Friday in Matt Hoffert’s debut as Hawks head coach.
Mason, a senior running back, scored on runs of 14, 3 and 10, all in the first half. He finished with 68 yards on six carries and had two catches for 27 yards; he also had a pair of TD catches called back by penalty.
Menapace, a senior quarterback, completed 9-of-12 passes for 136 yards with a 31-yard touchdown pass to Peter Ranck and scoring runs of 3 and 5 yards. He carried three times for 19 yards.
Ronny Parra and Tyler Shuey also had scoring runs for the Hawks, who reached the end zone six times in the first half.
The Hawks led 29-0 after the first quarter and 42-6 at the half.
Hamburg’s defense limited Halifax to 28 rushing yards on 20 carries.
Hoffert, a former Hawks assistant coach, was hired to replace Jeff Chillot, who resigned following last season.
The Hawks earned their first district playoff victory last season.
