Hamburg drops from Top 10 after first loss; Wyomissing, Exeter hold spots

Wyomissing and Exeter remained unbeaten and held their lofty spots in the state rankings but Hamburg dropped out of the PennLive.com Class 3A Top 10 after its first loss.

The Hawks (5-1) ascended to No. 10 last week, their first appearance in the state football rankings. They lost at No. 8 Lancaster Catholic 38-35, playing without Lancaster-Lebanon League scoring leader Pierce Mason, who was injured.

The Hawks are listed as a Team to Watch.

Wyomissing remained No. 1 in Class 3A with 41-7 win over Donegal, their Berks-record 31st straight regular season win.

The Spartans have been No. 1 for four straight weeks. Before this season they had never held the top spot during the regular season. They were ranked No. 1 in Class AA in 2012 after completing an unbeaten season with a win in the PIAA championship game over Aliquippa.

Exeter remains No. 3 in Class 5A for the third straight week. The Eagles remained unbeaten with a 47-7 win over Warwick.

Exeter is one of three unbeaten Class 5A teams in District 3. The others — Solanco, ranked No. 8, and Elizabethtown, listed as a Team to Watch — play Friday in Quarryville.

Wilson returns to the Class 6A rankings as a Team to Watch following its fifth straight win, 32-14 over Gov. Mifflin. The Bulldogs opened the season as a Team to Watch but were dropped after a 46-15 loss to Roman Catholic in their season-opener.

Wilson is one of four District 3 teams listed in the 6A rankings. Harrisburg is No. 6, Cumberland Valley No. 9 and Central York is a Team to Watch.
