Former quarterback, youth coach to be inducted into WFA Hall of Fame

Mike Grant and the late David Causa will be inducted into the Wyomissing Football Association Hall Fame before the Spartans’ game vs. Daniel Boone Saturday at Wolfrum Field.
Grant, a 1979 Wyomissing Area grad, was a two-time All-Berks quarterback who set numerous passing records and was the Spartans’ first Division I college prospect. He was Wyomissing’s first 1,000-yard passer as a junior and is regarded as one of the top quarterbacks in program history.
Grant was being recruited by top programs across the country, including Penn State, before breaking his neck early in his senior season. That injury ended his playing career.
Causa was a long-time youth coach who helped developed many of the players who were part of Wyomissing’s unbeaten 2012 PIAA Class AA championship team, including his son Justin. His son Dave also played for the Spartans.
Causa coached youth football for 25 years, 17 in the Wyomissing Youth Football Program. His Midget teams won Berks championships in 1994, 1998, 2004, 2006, 2007.
Causa is a 1973 Holy Name grad who competed in football and track and field. He was a two-time Inter-County League all-league lineman and an All-Berks pick as a senior.
Causa died in 2022.
The induction of Grant and Causa brings to 70 the number of members in the WFA Hall.
Last year’s class included Erv Wolf, Mike Peters, Matt Leoni, and Justin Bauman.
The inaugural class, in 2012, included 10 inductees, among them head coach Bob Wolfrum, Berks’ all-time winningest coach.
The WFA Hall of Fame honors those connected with football at Wyomissing High, West Reading, and Wyomissing Area.
